6 drug peddlers arrested in Kashmir: Police | KNO

Srinagar, Jan 02 (KNO): Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday said to have arrested six drug peddlers across Kashmir valley and recovered contraband substances from their possession. In Srinagar, a police party during patrolling near JVC Hospital Bemina, intercepted one person coming from Children Hospital to JVC Hospital Srinagar who tried to flee upon seeing the Police party. However, he was tactfully apprehended by the patrolling party and has been identified as Javid Ahmad Lone son of Bashir Ahmad Lone resident of Khargam Pattan A/P Mansoor Colony Bemina, a police spokesman said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). During the search, 44 grams of charas like substance was recovered from his possession and was arrested. Similarly, a police party from PS Nowgam during domination on Pahroo Kenihama axis intercepted one person namely Reyaz Ahmed Shah son of Gulzar Ahmed Shah resident of Check-e-Pahroo at Ganjipora. During the search, 39 Kgs of Cannabis Powder concealed in two nylon bags were recovered from his possession and was arrested on the spot, police said. In Ganderbal, a police party of PS Ganderbal during naka checking at Harran crossing intercepted a vehicle (Tata Mobile) bearing registration No. JK03H-2841 driven by one person namely Zafar Bashir Bhat son of Bashir Ahmad Bhat resident of Gundirehman, police said. During the search of the vehicle, 40 strips of SpasmoProxyvon-Plus (320 tablets) was recovered. The accused driver has been arrested on the spot besides, the vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized, police added. In Baramulla, a Police party of Police Station Baramulla at a checkpoint established at Janbazpora Baramulla arrested one person identified as Mubashir Ahmad Bhat son of Gh Mohd resident of Nowpora Jageer Kreeri. During the search, 121 grams of Charas-like substances was recovered from his possession. Similarly, a police party of PS Uri at a checkpoint established at Laghama-Garkote crossing arrested one person identified as Mohd Rafiq Awan son of Mohammad Abdullah resident of Garkote. During the search, 4.2Kgs of Cannabis power like substances was recovered from his possession. He has been arrested, the statement reads. In Handwara, a Police Party of Police Post Langate during naka checking at Kuhroo Bridge, intercepted a suspicious person. During search, 55 grams of Charas-like substance was recovered from his possession and was subsequently arrested. He has been identified as Hilal Ahmad Tantray son of Mohd Yousuf Tantray resident of Takiya Langate, police said. Accordingly, police said that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigation has been initiated. “We urge the common masses that if you witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere near you, feel free to contact the nearest police establishment or dial 112. People are requested to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law,” police said—(KNO)
